Now this is very interesting. I had my suspicions that Google would use Search Wiki to “improve” organic results, now it seems as though they are going to use google employees to decide what is relevant and what is not. Although I believe this will get rid of some of the junk out there, it is going to be risky and they need to make sure they don’t turn into a Fox news or something, deciding what they want their viewers to read. Here is more on this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/12/googlewashing_revisited/

But this initiative really lacks the collaborative search feature which are provide by microsoft searchTogether as explained in one of article i came through. http://www.abhishekmehta.com/apache-roller-4/blogs/date/20090309
I am wondering next logical step for SearchWiki would be a collaborative search platform based on buddies in google gtalk list.
I also read alot about this in the past few days, and I have read many articles on this subject over the past few years. Here is what people have to consider:
Google just laid off like 10,000 people
Google does not have the manpower to make an impact with manual editing of SERPS
Google will never have the manpower to manually edit
Google needs to automate everything using algorithms
All things considered what they will probably do is, well, what they do best and that is gather information and organize it. They will use the data gathered through Search Wiki to draw correlations with popular sites. They will then try to incorporate some of these findings into their algo.
At the end of the day I think that having a sticky site, one that not opnly attracts visitors but that keeps them engaged, is and will always be an important factor. Too often we get caught up in the push marketing and numbers game that is traffic and sales. But what people often forget about are critical factors like bounce rate, time on site, and conversion rate. Incremental increases in any of these things can increase your ROI dramatically and stretch your marketing dollars as far as they can go!
But this is good for us as it leaves many huge opportunities online.
