We get into a lot of situations with clients when they want to listen to the advice of only their programmer or “in house guy†and not take the advice of a company they are paying for their advice. And just for the very same reason you would not want to listen to me about the database table structures of your new ASP shopping cart, don’t listen to your Programmer about how to serve URL strings to make sure search engines can see them.
Many times, we get kick back from programmers because what we ask them to do is outside their comfort zone, requires more work from them and/or they don’t see the long term benefit of that which we are suggesting. The tail wagging the dog situation is the first sign to me that a company ran this way stands little chance of SEO success. I am not telling you that you need to take in every recommendation that an SEO consultant throws at you. I am saying that you are spending a lot of money to get rankings and you should at the very least explore every chance to make every recommended change, despite what the programmer in the corner sucking down a case of diet cokes has to say about it. It is likely that he knows little abou the art of SEO and what it takes to get rankings.
